What are wrinkles?
Wrinkles are those pesky fine lines that appear on our faces as we age, revealing years of exposure to the sun, the elements, and often cigarette smoke. These factors weaken the collagen and elastin present in youthful skin. Less collagen and elastin in the deep layers of the skin means less elasticity and moisture, thus a saggier, more wrinkly outer layer of skin.
First step: Prevention:
You can take steps to avoid gaining the aged look of wrinkles (although a few eventual wrinkles are inevitable). DO drink plenty of water and moisturize your skin every day. DON'T smoke or go tanning (this means outdoors or in a booth)
If you already have wrinkles...
Unfortunately, plenty of us have exposed our skin to wrinkle-causing factors, but luckily, there is a whole variety of treatments to choose from. These include:
- Botox
- Chemical peels
- Collagen Injections
- Laser skin rejuvenation
- Microdermabrasion
- Radiance
- Restylane
- Thermage
- Juvederm
Each one of these procedures is geared for a certain portion of the face or body, or for a specific severity of wrinkle.
